To a solution of 3-[3-[4-(5-trifluoromethyl-1,2,4-oxadiazol-3-yl)-2,6-dimethylphenoxy]-propyl]-pyridine (1 g, 2.6 mmol) in 50 ml of methylene chloride cooled to 0° C. was added 0.67 g (3.9 mmol) to m-chloroperoxybenzoic acid, and the mixture was allowed to stir overnight. The mixture was washed with saturated sodium bicarbonate, the organic layer was dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo to afford 1 g (98%) of 3-[3-[4-(5trifluoromethyl-1,2,4-oxadiazol-3-yl)-2,6-dimethylphenoxy]-propyl]-pyridine-N-oxide, as a yellow oil which crystallized (yellow flakes) on standing, m.p. 84°-86° C.
