The method of preparation of 2-imino-4-methylpiperidine acetate was used to convert 3-hydroxy-6-methyl-2-nitropyridine to the title compound except the reaction was run at 55° C. Product was obtained as a dark solid which was recrystallized from EtOH/EtOAc to give light amber crystals. The analysis of the product was found to be consistent with the proposed structure. m.p. 158-160° C. MH+=129; 1H NMR (D2O): δ4.40-4.30 (m, 1H); 3.60-3.40 (m, 1H); 2.00-1.40 (m, 4H); 1.72 (s, 3H); 1.10 (d, J=7 Hz, 3H).
