The method of preparation of 2-imino-4-methylpiperidine acetate was used to convert 2-aminoisoquinoline to the title compound except platinum oxide was used as the catalyst. The product was triturated with EtOH to give a white solid. The analysis of the product was found to be consistent with the proposed structure. 1H NMR (D2O): δ 7.35 (d, J=6 Hz, 1H); 6.55 (d, J=6 Hz, 1H); 2.6-2.5 (m, 2H); 2.20-2.10 (m, 2H); 1.75 (s, 3H); 1.70-1.50 (m, 4H).
