5-(3,5-Dichlorophenylthio)-4-isopropyl-1-[2-hydroxyethoxymethyl]-2-methyl-1H-imidazole (8) (450 mg, 1.20 mmol) prepared in accordance with the method as described in WO 96/10019 was converted to the acetal with 1,1-dimethoxycycloheptane (1.90 g, 12.0 mmol) in the same manner as the example 1 to give the compound 9 (358 mg, 59%) as oil. Rf 0.57 (Al2O3 60, Type E, 2:1 hexane -EtOAc).
