A solution of the compound of step (a) (298 mg, 0.37 mmol) in methylene chloride (5 ml) was cooled to 0° C. and then treated with bromotrimethylsilane (254 mg, 1.66 mmol) and pyridine (180 mg, 3.10 mmol). The resulting mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 3 hours and then quenched with water (1 ml) containing sodium hydroxide (96 mg, 2.41 mmol). The mixture was then acidified with dilute sulphuric acid and the product extracted into ethyl acetate. After washing with brine, the ethyl acetate phase was dried (MgSO4) and the solvent evaporated to give the title compound as a pale yellow foam (202 mg, 88%).
