Reaction Steps
1-(4-Formylpiperazinyl)-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)isoquinoline (4.79.7 g) was dissolved in ethanol (85 ml), followed by the addition of 2N sodium hydroxide (35 ml), and the mixture was heated under reflux for 4 hr. The reaction mixture was evaporated, water was added thereto, and extracted with chloroform. The resulting organic layer was washed with water, dried (over MgSO4) and evaporated. The resulting residue was purified by (NH) silica gel column chromatography (ethyl acetate/hexane system), to give the title compound as a colorless solid (2.720 g, yield; 63%).
