Procedure
To a solution of [3-(3-cyano-1-ethyl-6-methoxy-1H-indol-2-yl)-phenyl]-carbamic acid ethyl ester (1.65 g, 4.37 mmol) in DCM (20 mL) is added 1M BBr3 in DCM (13.12 mL) over a period of 20 min. The reaction mixture is stirred further 1 h at room temperature and then the solvents are removed under reduced pressure. The residue is dissolved in MeOH and then poured into cold water. The precipitate is collected by filtration and washed with hexane and dried in vacuo to afford [3-(3-cyano-1-ethyl-6-hydroxy-1H-indol-2-yl)-phenyl]-carbamic acid ethyl ester (1.5 g, 98%).
