Reaction Steps
After adding tetrahydrofuran (2 ml), ethanol (2 ml) and chloroform (1 ml) to 6,7-dimethoxy-4-(4-(2-nitrophenylmethyl-imino)phenyloxy)quinoline (200 mg, 0.4657 mmol) and heating the mixture to complete dissolution, sodium borohydride (35 mg, 0.9314 mmol) was added and the mixture was heated to reflux for 1 hour and 30 minutes. After cooling to room temperature, water was added, the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate, washed with saturated brine and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and the solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure. The residue was purified with an NH silica gel column (hexane-ethyl acetate system) to obtain the title compound (151 mg, 0.3500 mmol, 75.15%) as a yellow oil.
