Procedure

To a solution of 8-bromo-N2-pentyl-9-(tetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yl)-9H-purine-2,6-diamine (607 mg) in dry MeOH (4.75 mL) was added sodium methoxide solution (0.906 mL, 30% wt. MeOH) and the mixture was stirred at 60° C. for 48 h. The reaction was concentrated in vacuo. The residue was taken up in EtOAc (25 mL) and washed with saturated ammonium chloride (25 mL). The organics were separated, dried over MgSO4, filtered and concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound as a red/brown viscous oil (520 mg) which was used crude in the next step.
