Reaction Steps

Octahydro-2H-quinolizin-3-ylmethanol (600 mg, 3.55 mmol) was dissolved in dichloromethane (8 mL) and triethylanine (1.5 mL, 10.8 mmol) was added at 0° C. followed by dropwise addition of methanesulfonyl chloride (0.56 mL, 7.16 mmol). The solution was warmed to room temperature and stirred for 1.25 h and then was concentrated in vacuo. The residue was partitioned between ethyl acetate and saturated sodium bicarbonate solution. The aqueous portion was extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic portion was washed with brine, dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated in vacuo to afford octahydro-2H-quinolizin-3-ylmethyl methanesulfonate as an orange oil (796 mg, 3.22 mmol, 91% yield). MS (EI) for C11H21NO3S: 248 (MH+).
