Reaction Steps
To a solution of (+/−)-3-(4-methylphenylsulfinyl)-5-methoxyquinoline (2.97 g, 10 mmol) prepared in stage B of example 10 in CH2Cl2 is added m-CPBA (2.13 g, 80%, 10 mmol). The solution is stirred at room temperature for 12 hours. A solution of 1M NaOH is added. After extraction of the aqueous phase with CH2Cl2, the combined organic layers are dried (MgSO4) and the solvent evaporated giving the title compound.
