A mixture of N1-(7-methoxy-1,5-naphthyridin-4-yl)-N1-methylbenzene-1,4-diamine (0.061 g, 0.22 mmol) and 1-chloro-4-phenylphthalazine (0.052 g, 0.22 mmol) was heated at 100° C. for 48 h. The solvent was removed in vacuo and the residue was purified by silica gel chromatography using 1-10% MeOH:CH2Cl2 containing 1% NH4OH to afford N1-(7-methoxy-1,5-naphthyridin-4-yl)-N1-methyl-N4-(4-phenylphthalazin-1-yl)benzene-1,4-diamine as a yellow solid.
