Reaction Steps
Addition of acetonitrile to 3-(isopentyloxy)benzaldehyde gave 3-hydroxy-3-(3-(isopentyloxy)phenyl)propanenitrile as a yellow oil. Yield (0.82 g, 54%): 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 7.27-7.32 (m, 1H), 6.94-6.96 (m, 2H), 6.85-6.90 (m, 1H), 5.00-5.03 (m, 1H), 3.99 (t, J=6.4 Hz, 2H), 2.77 (d, J=6.0 Hz, 2H), 1.81-1.88 (m, 1H), 1.64-1.71 (m, 2H), 0.96 (d, J=6.4 Hz, 6H).
