(2R,3R,4R,5R)-2-(2-Chloro-6-{[trans-4-({[(1,1-dimethylethyl)oxy]carbonyl}amino)cyclohexyl]amino}-9H-purin-9-yl)-5-(2-ethyl-2H-tetrazol-5-yl)tetrahydrofuran-3,4-diyl diacetate (Intermediate 1) (12.49 g), was dissolved in trifluoroacetic acid—dichloromethane mixture (50:50; 40 ml). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1-2 h and then evaporated down in vacuo. The residue was partitioned between ethyl acetate and 2N aq.sodium bicarbonate solution, making sure the trifluoroacetic acid was neutralised. The organic phase was separated, washed with brine, dried (MgSO4), and evaporated down in vacuo, to give the title compound, 11.2 g.
