Reaction Steps

In 40 ml of acetone was dissolved 2.81 g of N-acetyl-N-[2-(1,3-dioxolan-2-yl)benzyl]-2-phenoxyaniline synthesized in the same manner as in Example 3, and then 0.10 g of p-toluenesulfonic acid monohydrate was added, followed by stirring at room temperature for 6 hours. To the reaction solution was added a saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution, the acetone was concentrated under reduced pressure, and the residue was extracted with ethyl acetate, washed with a saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution and a saturated aqueous sodium chloride solution and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. After removal of the drying agent by filtration, the solvent was concentrated under reduced pressure, and the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (eluent; ethyl acetate−hexane=1:3), dried and allowed to stand at room temperature to give 2.12 g of N-acetyl-N-(2-formylbenzyl)-2-phenoxyaniline as crystals.
