A solution of lithium tetrahydroaluminate (0.1107 mol) in THF (100 ml) was added dropwsie at 0° C. under N2 flow to a suspension of ethyl 4-(2-benzothiazolylamino)-benzoate (0.1107 mol) in water. The mixture was brought to RT and stirred for 30 minutes. The mixture was hydrolized by adding water (8 ml) dropwise and then CH2Cl2 (50 ml), and a little CH3OH was added. The precipitate was filtered and the solvent was evaporated. The residue was crystallized from 2 propanone and DIPE. The precipitate was filtered off and dried, yielding 8 g (86%) of 4-(2-benzothiazolyl-amino)benzenemethanol (interm. 8).
