Sonogashira reaction of 39 with ethynylbenzene gave tert-butyl 3-hydroxy-3-(3-(phenylethynyl)phenyl)propylcarbamate as brown oil. Yield (0.911 g, 85%): 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 7.51-7.55 (m, 3H), 7.42-7.44 (m, 1H), 7.30-7.37 (m, 5H), 4.87 (bs, 1H), 4.74-4.76 (m, 1H), 3.46-3.51 (m, 1H), 3.41 (bs, 1H), 3.13-3.19 (m, 1H), 1.79-1.88 (m, 2H), 1.44 (s, 9H).
