To a solution of 4-chloro-2-(1-oxo-3,4,6,7,8,9-hexahydropyrazino[1,2-a]indol-2(1H)-yl)-nicotinaldehyde 103b (1.0 g, 3.0 mmol) in methanol (30 mL) was added sodium borohydride (380 mg, 9.0 mmol) at 10° C. The reaction mixture was stirred for 30 minutes and quenched with water (10 mL). It was then concentrated under reduced pressure and the residue was dissolved in dichloromethane (50 mL). The mixture was washed with water (10 mL), dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, filtered, and evaporated under reduced pressure to afford 190f as a yellow solid (900 mg, 90%). MS-ESI: [M+H]+ 332.
