Cinacalcet HCl salt (˜3.16 g, ˜8.02 mmol, 11) was dissolved in dichloromethane (DCM) and the solution was washed with saturated aqueous Na2CO3 solution three times. The dichloromethane solution was dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and the solvent removed under reduced pressure to give cinacalcet free base (12) as a clear liquid (˜2.75 g, ˜96% yield).
