To a solution of N-(2-(benzyloxy)-5-chlorobenzylidene)pyridin-3-amine (0.929 mmol) in DMF (3 mL) at room temperature, was added NaH (1.12 mmol) and the solution was stirred for 1 h, followed by the addition of imine (0.929 mmol). After stirring for 4 d, the reaction mixture was diluted with satd. NH4Cl solution and the product was extracted with EtOAc. The combined organic extract was dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated to afford the crude. Chromatographic purification afforded the final product. Yield 21%. 1H NMR: 4.64 (s, 2H), 6.70 (d, 1H), 6.96 (m, 2H), 7.16-7.30 (m, 8H), 7.71 (s, 1H), 8.31 (d, 1H, J=2.4 Hz), 8.53 (dd, 1H, J=1.8 Hz, 3.0 Hz)
