Using 1.0 g (3.53 mmol) of 3-(4-cyano phenoxy)-5-hydroxy benzoic acid ethyl ester and (2-bromo-ethyl)-benzene (0.65 g, 3.53 mmol) and following the procedure of Example 42(b) afforded 0.95 g of the required product. 1H NMR (CDCl3): δ 1.35 (3H, t), 3.1 (2H, t), 4.2 (2H, t), 4.35 (2H, q), 6.78 (1H, t), 7.0 (2H, s), 7.22 (1H, m) 7.32 (5H, m), 7.42 (1H, m), 7.62 (2H, s).
