Using 1.2 g (4.23 mmol) of 3-(4-cyano phenoxy)-5-hydroxy benzoic acid ethyl ester and 1-bromomethyl-3-nitro-benzene (0.913 g, 4.23 mmol) and following the procedure of Example 42(b) afforded 1.43 g of the required product. 1H NMR (DMSO-d6): δ 1.3 (3H, t), 4.3 (2H, q), 5.4 (2H, s), 7.2 (4H, m), 7.45 (1H, s), 7.72 (1H, t), 7.9 (3H, m), 8.25 (1H, d), 8.35 (1H, s).
