In a 25 mL round-bottomed flask, 6-bromo-1-(triisopropylsilyl)-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridine (420 mg, 1.19 mmol, Eq: 1.00) and thiomorpholine 1,1-dioxide (482 mg, 3.57 mmol) were combined with toluene (3 ml) to give a yellow solution. Bis(tri-tert-butylphosphine)palladium(0) (60.7 mg, 119 μmol) and sodium tert-butoxide (400 mg, 4.16 mmol, Eq: 3.5) were added. The reaction mixture was heated to 80° C. and stirred for 1 h. The reaction mixture was poured into 20 mL sat NaCl and extracted with EtOAc (3×20 mL). The organic layers were dried over MgSO4 and concentrated in vacuo. The crude material was purified by flash chromatography (silica gel, 40 g, 20% to 40% EtOAc in hexanes) to give 6-(1,1-Dioxo-1lambda*6*-thiomorpholin-4-yl)-1-triisopropylsilanyl-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridine (327 mg, 68%) as a yellow oil that solidified as off white solid upon standing.
