An aqueous solution of 304 g (2 mol) of 2-(ethylhydroxyphosphinyl)acetic acid (produced according to Example 10) is reacted with about 160 g of a 50% strength aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide and the water is distilled off in vacuo to obtain 384 g (98% of theory) of 2-(ethylhydroxyphosphinyl)acetic acid sodium salt as colorless solid.
