Procedure

3.1 g (0.02 mol) of 2-amino-4,6-dimethoxypyrimidine are dissolved in 30 ml of dichloromethane, and 5.1 g (0.02 mol) of 2-propargyloxyphenoxysulfonyl isocyanate--dissolved in 20 ml of dichloromethane--are added at 0° C. After the reaction mixture has been stirred for 24 hours at room temperature, it is diluted with 50 ml of dichloromethane, washed with 50 ml of 1N hydrochloric acid and 50 ml of water, dried and evaporated. The oily residue crystallizes on trituration with diethyl ether. 7.4 g (91% of theory) of 3-(4,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-yl)-1-(2-propargyloxyphenoxysulfonyl)urea of melting point 125°-126° C. are obtained.
