10 g of 2,2,5-trimethyl-1,3-dioxan-5-ylmethyl 2,5,7,8-tetramethyl-2-(4',8', 12'-trimethyl-tridecyl)-6-chromanyl carbonate was dissolved in a mixture of 70 ml of 2 N hydrochloric acid and 35 ml of methanol and heated under reflux for 4.5 hours. After cooling, the reaction mixture was extracted with 500 ml of ethyl acetate and 400 ml of water. The extract was washed with water, dried and concentrated. Then the obtained residue was purified by column chromatography (silica gel, hexane/ethyl acetate). Thus 7.4 g of the title compound was obtained as a colorless and starch syrup-like product.
