Procedure
1.64 g (0.01 mol) of 5-trifluoromethyl-2-oxo-2H-pyran and 5.4 g (0.05 mol) of 1,4-benzoquinone in 7 ml of 1,2-dichlorobenzene are heated at 180° C. for 12 hours. The reaction mixture is then evaporated at 90°/20 mbar, and the distillation residue is chromatographed on 150 g of silica gel 60 (eluent CH2Cl2 : acetone 19:1; excess pressure of 0.3 bar), yield 1.82 g (80.53%); m.p. 80°-85°.
