Procedure
In 100 ml of 1,1,2-trichlorotrifluoroethane solution containing 5.00 g (0.01 mol) of 2-phenyl-2-heptafluorobutyryloxy-1-heptafluoropropyl propane ##STR19## 200 ml of an aqueous 10% sodium hydroxide solution added thereto was stirred. An organic layer was separated from the resultant mixture and was dried with magnesium sulfate. By analyzing the reaction product, i.e. the organic layer, by gas chromatography, IR, and NMR, the reaction was foundn to have produced 2-phenyl-2-hydroxy-1-heptafluoropropyl propane ##STR20## in a yield of 98%.
