Reaction Steps

Manganese IV dioxide (13.3 g, 153 mmol) was suspended in toluene (300 ml) and refluxed overnight with the azeotropic removal of H2O. The unsaturated alcohol (5.17 g, 15.3 mmol, Step D) was added and reflux was continued for four hours. The reaction was cooled and filtered through a bed of silica. Filtrate was evaporated to give 4.73 g (92%) of product as a yellow solid.
