0.96 g of propyl 4-ethyl-2-propyl-1-[[2'-(N-triphenylmethyl(tetrazol-5-yl))biphenyl-4-yl]methyl]imidazole-5-carboxylate was dissolved in 22 mL of methanol and then 4.8 g silica gel and 6 drops of 6N HCl were added. The gel was filtered away after 3 days and the resulting silica was washed with CH2Cl2 and then ethyl acetate. The combined organic solutions were evaporated and the residue was chromatographed with a gradient of 0 to 5% methanol in chloroform to provide 0.25 g of the title compound.
