A solution of N-trifluoroacetyl-8-bromo-1-hydroxymethyl-7-methoxy-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1H-3-benzazepine (0.009 g, 0.024 mmol) in methanol (1 mL) was treated with 15% aqueous NaOH (1 mL), and stirred for 1 hour at 50° C. The product mixture was diluted with brine (5 mL), extracted twice with EtOAc (5 mL), dried with MgSO4, and concentrated to give 0.006 g clear oil. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CD3OD) δ 7.28 (s, 1H), 6.79 (s, 1H), 3.84 (m, 2H), 3.0-2.8 (m, 7H). MS calculated for C12H16BrNO2+H: 286, observed: 286.
