2.2 2.1 g (15.12 mmol) of potassium carbonate are added to a solution of 600 mg (3.03 mmol) of (1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridin-3-yl)pent-2-yn-1-one and 660 mg (3.66 mmol) of guanidine carbonate in 10 ml of ethylene glycol monomethyl ether, and the mixture is heated at the boil for 4 hours. After cooling, the mixture is partitioned between water and ethyl acetate. The organic phase is dried over sodium sulfate, evaporated, and the residue is chromatographed using preparative HPLC, giving 4-ethyl-6-(1H-pyrrolo-[2,3-b]pyridin-3-yl)pyrimidin-2-ylamine (“A5”) as colourless solid; ESI 240;
