(1,1-Dioxo-1,4-dihydro-1λ6-thia-2,4,8-triaza-naphthalen-3-yl)-acetic acid ethyl ester (0.25 g, 0.928 mmol) was dissolved in methanol (5 mL) at approximately 60° C. Sodium hydroxide (0.111 g, 2.79 mmol) was dissolved in water (2.5 mL). Upon cooling to 25° C., the solutions were combined. The mixture was stirred at 25° C. for 3 h. The mixture was stored at −40° C. for 16 h. The mixture was concentrated in vacuo to afford the crude product, (1,1-dioxo-1,4-dihydro-1λ6-thia-2,4,8-triaza-naphthalen-3-yl)-acetic acid sodium salt (˜0.928 mmol), as a yellow film, which was used in the next step without further purification.
