Reaction Steps
(±)-2-tert-Butyl-5′-nitro-1′,3′-dihydrospiro[imidazole-4,2′-inden]-5(1H)-one A solution of (±)-2-[(2,2-dimethylpropanoyl)amino]-5-nitroindane-2-carboxamide from Step A (23.0 mg, 0.075 mmol) and 5N NaOH (0.075 mL, 0.38 mmol) in EtOH (5 mL) was heated to reflux for 3.5 h. The reaction mixture was poured onto saturated NH4Cl (10 mL) and extracted with CH2Cl2 (3×10 mL). The combined organic layers were dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated under reduced pressure to give the title compound. MS: m/z=288 (M+1).
