Procedure
A mixture of thiourea (1.52 g) and 2,3-dichloro-6-fluorobenzyl bromide (commercially available) (5.16 g) in 2-butanone (20 ml) was heated to 100° C. for 5 minutes in the microwave. The reaction mixture was cooled to ambient temperature and filtered. The white solid was washed with diethyl ether to give 2-(2,3-dichloro-6-fluoro-benzyl)-isothiourea hydrobromide (5.14 g). 1H-NMR (400 MHz, CD3OD): 7.61-7.65 (m, 1H), 7.22-7.27 (m, 1H), 4.64 (m, 2H) ppm.
