To a stirred solution of 4-[(3R)-3-methyl-4-(1-methyl-6-oxo-1,6-dihydro-[4,4′]bipyrimidinyl-2-yl)-piperazin-1-yl]-benzonitrile (1.50 mg, 3.87 mmol) in ethanol (8.0 ml) and water (4.0 ml) was added hydroxylammonium chloride (807 mg, 11.6 mmol) and sodium carbonate (2.05 g, 19.4 mmol), and the reaction mixture was stirred for 2 hours under reflux. The solution was partitioned between water and chloroform, and the organic layer was washed with water and brine, dried over magnesium sulfate, and concentrated in vacuo. The resulting solid was used for next reaction without further purification.
