A 250 mL round bottom flask was charged with tert-butyl 4-(5-(hydroxymethyl)-[1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]pyrazin-8-yl)piperazine-1-carboxylate (0.30 g, 0.90 mmol) and dry CH2Cl2 (20 mL). To the above was added activated MnO2 (0.23 g, 2.6 mmol). The resulting suspension was stirred at room temperature for 16 h. Work-up: the reaction mixture was filtered. The filtrate was concentrated in vacuo, to afford 0.26 g (87%) of the product as a yellow solid. MS m/z: 333 (M+H+).
