Procedure

To a solution of benzyl[(1R,2Z)-2-amino-2-(hydroxyimino)-1-methylethyl]carbamate (2.25 g, 9.48 mmol) in dioxane (80 ml) was added 1-acetyl-1H-imidazole (3.13 g, 28.5 mmol) and the mixture heated to 90° C. After 16 h, the solution was concentrated and the residue was dissolved in 200 mL of dichloromethane. The mixture was washed with 100 mL of aquous saturated sodium bicarbonate (2×) and saturated aqueous sodium chloride (100 mL). The organic layer was dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated. The residue was purified by silica gel chromatography (100% dichloromethane→95% dichloromethane/methanol) to give the title compound (1.1 g). MS 262.1 (M+1).
