2-(2-Cyclobutoxy-3-methyl-benzoylamino)-4,5-dichloro-indan-2-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (255) (460 mg, 0.99 mmol) is dissolved in EtOH (50 mL) and set to stir at RT. To this solution is added 5M KOH (3 ml). The reaction mixture is stirred at RT overnight. After concentration in vacuo, the residue is dissolved in water (20 mL) and acidified with concentrated HCl to pH 2. The resultant mixture is washed with EtOAc (3×100 ml). Organics are combined and washed with brine, then dried over anhydrous Na2SO4 and concentrated in vacuo. The desired product (256) is obtained as white solid (405 mg, 94%).
