A solution of methyl-4-methyl-3-[2-(methylsulfanyl)-5,6,7,8-tetrahydropyrido[4,3-d]pyrimidin-6-yl]benzoate (82 mg, 0.249 mmol) in 1,4-dioxane (5 ml) was treated with 1.0 N NaOH (aq.) (0.748 ml, 0.748 mmol) and the reaction mixture was heated at 100° C. for 15 hours. The solvent was removed in vacuo and the residue was taken up in water. The aqueous mixture was washed with EtOAc and acidified to pH˜2-3 with 1.0 N HCl (aq.). The white, amorphous precipitate which formed was collected, washed with water, and dried to give the title compound (67 mg, 87%).
