Dess-Martin period inane (1.570 g, 3.70 mmol) was added to an ice-cold solution of 2-(benzo[b]thiophen-6-yl)ethanol (649 mg, 3.05 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (8 mL). The reaction was allowed to warm to room temperature and after 2 h, was poured into a mixture of 50 mL saturated NaHCO3/50 mL 5% NaHSO3 solution. The resulting mixture was stirred for 30 minutes and then was extracted with CH2Cl2 (3×40 mL). The combined organic solution was dried (Na2SO4), filtered and evaporated to give the title compound which was used directly in the next step.
