A mixture of methyl 4-(2-((1R,2R,3R)-3-((tert-butyldimethylsilyl)oxy)-2-((E)-3-((tert-butyldimethylsilyl)oxy)-4-(naphthalen-2-yl)but-1-en-1-yl)-5-oxocyclopentyl)ethyl)benzoate (1 g, 1.46 mmol) in HOAc/H2O/THF (32 mL, 2:1:1) was stirred at 70° C. overnight and then was co-evaporated with toluene. Purification of the residue by flash chromatography (ethyl acetate/hexanes) gave methyl 4-(2-((1R,2S)-2-((E)-3-hydroxy-4-(naphthalen-2-yl)but-1-en-1-yl)-5-oxocyclopent-3-en-1-yl)ethyl)benzoate (497 mg, 77%).
