Procedure
To a suspension of 3-methoxy-4-[2-(2-oxoimidazolidin-1-yl)ethoxy]benzaldehyde oxime (21.7 g, 0.078 mol) in CH2Cl2 (950 mL) at −3° C., is added dropwise an aqueous NaOCl solution in water (Aldrich, >4% of active chlorine) (161 mL) over 10 minutes. The reaction medium is then stirred for 20 minutes at 0° C. The organic phase is separated and the aqueous phase is extracted with CH2Cl2 (4 times 100 mL). The combined organic phases are washed with water (3 times 100 mL), dried over Na2SO4 and then concentrated under reduced pressure (Tbath 22° C.) to 200-220 mL. The precipitate obtained is filtered, washed with CH2Cl2 (twice 10 mL) and dried under atmospheric pressure at room temperature.
