3,4-Bis(benzyloxy)benzoic acid was dispersed in ethylene glycol, and heated to 80° C. A catalytic amount of KOH was added to the solution that was left to react until all solids were dissolved. The solution was precipitated into cold water and left to stir for several hours, yielding a white solid. The solid was obtained by filtration, rinsed with water, and then freeze dried.
