3-(2-Hydroxy-ethyl)-5-iodo-4-methyl-1H-pyrrole-2-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (0.34 mmol, 114 mg) in DMSO (2 mL) was treated with o-iodoxybenzoic acid (IBX, 0.51 mmol, 148 mg), then held at room temperature for 3h. The mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate (50 mL), washed with brine (10 mL), then concentrated under reduced pressure to provide 84 mg (75%) of 5-iodo-4-methyl-3-(2-oxo-ethyl)-1H-pyrrole-2-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester. 1H NMR (CDCl3) δ 9.63 (1H, s), 8.91 (1H, br s), 4.09 (2H, s), 2.62 (3H, s), 1.52 (9H, s).
