Procedure
500 mg of N-methyl-2-(piperidin-4-yl)ethanesulfonamide was dissolved in 15 ml of acetic acid. After adding 180 mg of platinum oxide, the resulting mixture was subjected to catalytic reduction at room temperature under a hydrogen pressure of 6 atm. After filtering off the insoluble matters, the acetic acid was distilled off under reduced pressure. The crystals thus precipitated were well washed with diethyl ether and dried under reduced pressure. Thus 664 mg of the title compound was obtained as white crystals almost quantitatively.
