5-(−2-aminopropyl]-2-methoxybenzenesulfonamide (200 g) was dissolved in dimethylformamide (950 ml) and 1-(2-Bromoethoxy)-2-ethoxybenzene (100.3 g) was added. The reaction mixture was heated to 80–85° C. for 4 hours. Dimethylformamide was then distilled off under vacuum. Water (1000 ml) was added to solid residue and the mixture was heated to 80–90° C. under stirring for 2 hours. The mixture was cooled to room temperature. Formed crystals were filtered off and were suspended in water (900 ml). Suspension was heated to 80–90° C. under stirring for 2 hours. Crystals were filtered, washed with water (200 ml) and dried to give tamsulosin base (150 g, 89.8%).
