To a solution of 4-(4-hydroxy-phenoxy)-3,5-diiodobenzoic acid (400 mg, 0.828 mmol) in THF (6.0 ml) under argon was added borane-THF complex (3.31 mmol, 3.31 ml of 1M solution in THF) dropwise. After addition, the reaction mixture was heated at 60° C. for 3 h, then quenched with water and extracted with ethyl acetate three times. The organic extract was washed with water, then brine, dried (sodium sulfate) and concentrated in vacuo to afford the title compound (321 mg, 83%) as a white solid. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 7.79 (s, 2H), 6.67 (d, j=8.8 Hz, 2H), 6.55 (d, j=8.8 Hz, 2H), 4.55 (s, 2H) MS: (M+1-H2O)=451
