Procedure

To a solution of 4-chloro-N-(2,5-difluorophenyl)-N-[(R)-1-methyl-3-bromopropyl]-benzenesulfonamide (1.74 g, 3.58 mmol) in THF/H2O (20/4, 24 mL) was added sodium azide (2.33 g, 35.8 mmol) at 22° C. The resulting mixture was allowed to stir at 22° C. for 4 days. The mixture was extracted with ether (3×60 mL). The combined organic extracts were washed with sat. NaHCO3, dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated under reduced pressure. Silica gel chromatography (1:9 ethyl acetate:hexanes) of the concentrate afforded 1.53 g of 4-chloro-N-(2,5-difluorophenyl)-N-[(R)-1-methyl-3-azidopropyl]benzenesulfonamide as a colorless oil in 95% yield.
