365 parts by weight of 1-methyl-1-ethyl-propyl chloride are added dropwise to a mixture of 510 parts by weight of 2-methyl-3-phenyl-propyl chloride and 49 parts by weight of anhydrous iron (III) chloride at 30° C. The resulting mixture is stirred for 8 hours at 50° C. and for 14 hours at room temperature (20° C.). The crude product is poured into ice water and dissolved in CHCl3, the solution is repeatedly washed with water and dried over Na2CO3, the solvent is evaporated and the residue is distilled.
